So what do you do when you turn fifty and your children set up a blog for you as a birthday gift? Well, blog of course…

It’s my own fault really, I’ve been talking about starting a personal blog on and off now for a couple of years, but have been too chicken to start one myself…I think there is a lesson here in “be careful what you wish for” and “be careful who you share with”.

I have been writing a personal journal for about 25 years on and off (more on than off), but perhaps not as much as I would have liked. It has been easy to let life get in the way of my writing, and as I’m usually only writing for myself, regularity didn’t really seem to matter. Most of my journaling has been around trying to get stuff out of my head so that I can stay relatively sane in my day to day world (some would argue that this doesn’t work, but I try), documenting the day to day goings on as well as marking the major events that have occurred in my life. My reasoning behind starting a blog was to journal my experiences as I am slowly leaving one phase of my life behind and entering a new phase. This just also happens to be coinciding with me taking a 12 month sabbatical from work, a gap year if you will, to try and discover what it is I truly want to do with my life and where I want to be heading for the future. So this blog will mainly be about that journey with other bits of random writing thrown in for fun.
